PRCI commissioned this project (NDE-4-6) to further evaluate and accurately assess the current state (as of 2019) of NDE methodologies for characterizing Stress Corrosion Cracking. The NDE-4-6 project also conducted advanced Finite Element Modeling and flaw fabrication to help gain further insight on NDE performance and improve efficiency of conducting round robin evaluations.

The project consisted of a round-robin type study, in which service and technology providers were asked to conduct NDE on several blind samples including actual SCC and fabricated flaw samples. Following completion of the NDE, select samples were destructively tested and characterized in a laboratory using metallurgical microscopy and X-ray computed tomography (XRCT). The results of the destructive testing were then used to characterize the performance of the NDE methods and technologies applied.
