The PRCI Technology Development Center (TDC) is an industry-leading test facility developed to improve pipeline integrity and help the pipeline industry achieve its goal of zero safety and environmental incidents. The TDC consists of an area for flow loop push-through testing, a winch system for pull-through string testing, storage space for pipe donations by pipeline companies, offices, meeting rooms, and workshop space.

The TDC has a growing inventory of pipe samples that can be utilized in PRCI and third-party research programs. When pipe samples are donated to the TDC, the information that is known and available for the pipe is generally documented. However, PRCI recognizes that for these pipe samples to be utilized effectively in research programs, key information must be documented and made available to prospective researchers. Consequently, PRCI retained DNV to develop procedures for properly documenting and collecting additional data (e.g., from non-destructive examination (NDE)) on donated pipe samples for use in research on crack-like flaws.
This document contains procedures for documenting and collecting data on donated samples that are traceable, verifiable, and complete. The procedures establish what data is available for a given pipe sample. They are intended to not be overly burdensome for donating companies. By following the procedures, data for pipe samples will be readily accessible and consistent so that samples can be quickly and efficiently utilized in research programs. This document is written for PRCI-funded research programs. However, any parties seeking pipe samples from the TDC inventory may use the information provided. Deviations from this procedure are permissible with written approval from the PRCI Project Manager.
