In response to the high interest among companies who operate pipelines with wrinklebends, PRCI is hosting a workshop for PRCI members and invited industry experts to provide a clear and concise review of the research completed to date and to address the integrity management implications for pipeline companies who operate systems with wrinklebends. The workshop will occur on October 29 in conjunction with the Pipeline Technical Committee Meetings in Los Angeles. Included will be a review of failure analysis reports, factors contributing to wrinkle bends, and development of in-the-ditch guidelines. This will be followed by detailed discussion of the emerging threat prioritization tool with emphasis on integrating in-line inspection data with other factors including geography, weather conditions, operating conditions, type of bend (sag, over, or side), condition of wrinkle including seam weld interactions, and wrinklebend severity (h/L ratio). The workshop will also include discussion of how operators can utilize insights from MATV-1-2 research to evaluate the threats associated with wrinkle bends and properly characterize the magnitude of threats based on the methods of the threat prioritization tool.
