This is a unique PRCI project that focuses on substantially improving the pipeline route selection process which has been identified by industry as a key element in the timely and cost effective construction of new energy pipelines. Reflecting the importance of this need to all segments of the industry, the project has been funded jointly by PRCI, the International Pipeline & Offshore Contractors Association (IPLOCA) and the Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA) Foundation and represents a high research priority for all three organizations. Interviews are currently being conducted of operators, constructors as well as engineering and planning firms to identify best practices, as well as key gaps in current practices that lead to sub optimization in route selection. PRCI is planning to host an industry workshop in December 2012 to discuss the results of the interviews and gain consensus leading to the development of an industry best practices guideline.
