This report describes a new approach using existing non-destructive examination (NDE) techniques to determine pipe properties when existing data and information are absent or incomplete. The research work developed a neural network-based tool making use of linepipe hardness, chemistry and microstructure information to determine pipe characteristics, including strength and toughness. This research was completed to develop a tool to fill gaps in pipeline operators’ knowledge and records and provide the basis to meet the requirements of "traceable, verifiable, and complete" (TVC) records requirements and regulatory Integrity Verification Processes (IVP), where applicable, and to establish and maintain operating pressure thresholds that provide for safe operation of liquids and gas pipeline systems.
