Cable-based technologies can be used to detect leaks, ground movement, and third-party interference. Significant technical challenges exist for installing cables at precise positions along existing pipelines. This project aimed to advance technology that can enable retrofitting existing pipelines with cable-based sensors. One of the key gaps is the ability to accurately locate the lateral position and depth-of-cover of a pipeline. Testing was performed on two pipelines to evaluate the performance of different pipeline location technologies to provide pipeline operators with data that can be used...
Testing was performed on two pipelines to evaluate the performance of different pipeline location technologies to provide pipeline operators with data that can be used in evaluating potential retrofit applications. This work aimed to move the needle closer towards a full pipeline retrofit of cable-based technologies.
