Date: Tuesday, November 28, 2017
Time: 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM EDT

Presenter: Ralph Dickau, ROD Engineering Ltd.
Project Team Leader: Hemanth Satish, TransCanada
PRCI Project Manager: Gary Choquette

Ralph Dickau of ROD Engineering will be presenting information on PRCI project CPS-15D “Pipeline Vertical Booster Pump Design, Operation and Maintenance Best Practices”. This webinar will describe the booster pump best practices considering the unique design issues for pipelines and further how the pumps should be specified, operated and maintained to ensure long term service. It will cover both the design and operation of the vertical can type pumps.

Expected Benefits/Learning Outcomes

After attending this webinar the participants will:

  • Understand optimizations of vertical pump designs beyond the capabilities of existing standards; especially as applied to vertical pumps for the pipeline industry.
  •  Gain guidance for developing ‘in-house’ specifications which layer on top of industry standards for both new purchase and installation.
  • Understand the information necessary to ensure vertical pumps meet the quality and service conditions from purchase to installation and the associated troubleshooting.
  • Receive advice on information that should be included in the API 610 data sheets.
  • Have a better understanding of resonant vibration of the pump/motor structure and associated factory testing.
  • Learn the additional characteristics of electric motor for vertical pump service.
  • Gain an understanding of pump foundation design.
  • Information to optimize pump/motor installation.
  • A better understanding of the most common pump failure modes and associated maintenance practices to reduce their occurrence.
  • An understanding of starting/stopping issues and how variable frequency drives can impact pump performance and reliability.
  • How to optimize protection limits from vibration monitors.

Who Should Attend?

Liquids pipeline operators that control or maintain, or will be purchasing or designing pipe facilities with vertical pumps:

  • Field operations and maintenance personnel
  • Mechanical/pump specialists
  • Design engineers of pump facilities.
  • Operations management
