In addition, the obtaining of surface and near-surface oceanographic and meteorological data provides the opportunity to develop mathematical relationships between surface and bottom conditions for a major storm or hurricane. From these relationships, ocean bottom characteristics that could be expected when a design wind speed or wave height occurs may be recognized. This effort (1) developed an instrument to take oceanographic and meteorological data, (2) gathered data, and (3) began analysis on correlations between the surface and bottom conditions.
