This book is designed to bring members of the natural gas industry a complete text covering the technical advances made as a result of the TRACOR-AGA Transient Flow Study. The study began in January 1962 and culminated in a seminar in October 1964. A major portion of this book is the treatment of nonlinear partial differential equations which constitute the dynamic model of the line section. Both numerical and analytical treatments are presented. Solutions of the mathematical model are presented in the form of transfer functions. Compatible treatment of compressor stations and pressure regulators is also investigated. Techniques for the treatment of complex systems made up of many line sections and compressor stations are given. Finally, some immediate applications of transient techniques are discussed in addition to the possible course of future natural gas transmission research.
