This project evaluated the performance of various configurations of welded repairs for use in reinforcing improper hot taps. A combination of finite element analysis and full-scale testing was used to evaluate the different repairs. The repairs were compared based primarily on fatigue performance. Samples were created using field weld procedures, and full scale testing of these samples was conducted in which stresses were measured at a number of locations using strain gages.
