Welcome to the final issue of Throughput for 2013. As you may know, Throughput is a great way to learn about PRCI's research program; in this issue it will cover a number of recently completed projects that are available to the members for free and available for purchase to non-members. In the last quarter of 2013 PRCI Technical Committees will begin the process of actively executing the recently approved research program that address a number of critical areas for the pipeline industry. Overall the 2014 research ballot represents about a $10 million investment in R&D with ½ of those dollars going to 11 programs. These programs include:

ILI enhancement
Structural Significance of Mechanical Damage
Small Leak Detection
Strain Based Design and Assessment
Tools to Detect Mechanical Damage
Remote, Automated Right of Way Monitoring for Leak Detection and External Threats
Right of Way Monitoring & Surveillance by Satellite
Compressor Station Engines - Toxic Emissions Compliance
Zero - Zero: Zero Hardware/Performance Failures & Zero Emissions Exceedances (Compressor Engines)
Measurement of Non-Traditional Gas Supplies, and,
Storage Field Integrity.

Along with the individual projects, these are key activities that continue to move the pipeline industry towards its stated goal of zero failures. Altogether, 79 projects were approved for the overall 2014 research program, with 30 being new projects and the remainder being continuing activities. We would encourage you to consider participating in these key efforts by becoming actively involved in the various projects and programs that are either in progress or just beginning this Fall. If you are a member, I would encourage you to spend some time on our website and in PRIME to more fully appreciate the scope and objectives of research projects that are active.
