Rio Pipeline Conference & Exposition 2009 The biennial conference and exposition for pipeline technology sponsored by the Brazilian Petroleum Institute (IBP) and ASME was hold in Rio de Janeiro on September 22-24, 2009. PRCI was represented at the conference by Eric Thomas, Chief Operating Officer. Several PRCI member companies, both operating companies and Associate members, we well represented as attendees and presenters. Petrobras was a primary supporter of the event in all ways, and was prominent in providing technical presentations. The topical sessions were broad ranging including but not limited to social responsibility, environmental, offshore, corrosion, integrity, and reliability. PRCI participated in the Corrosion Rate Modeling Forum with a presentation and discussion of current work. With the opportunity, Mr. Thomas was also invited to tour two research facilities in Rio. CENPES is the main Petrobras campus for research into all of its operating areas, which includes pipeline transportation. It is a world-class, fully equipped institution including a pilot refinery. CTDUT is a non-profit pipeline integrity oriented organization with current and growing capabilities. In the next year, they will construct companion 1.5 miles, 14-inch, flow loops with full instrumentation and ILI tool capabilities. PRCI will arrange for CTDUT to make a presentation to the Pipeline Program Technical Committees. PRCI would like to thank Petrobras, and Board member Pedro Altoe Ferreira for organizing these visits.
