This report documents the development of a set of Guidelines for the use of subsurface safety valves in gas storage wells. The final version of the Guidelines is included in Appendix A at the end of the report. The Guidelines were formulated based on input from gas storage well operators and subsurface safety valve manufacturers.

The Guidelines are a single source of information designed to assist the storage well operator in selecting, installing, operating, and maintaining subsurface safety valves in his wells. The information contained in the Guidelines should benefit both the first time user of subsurface safety valves and those with extensive experience with SSSV’s. The Guidelines do require that the reader have some working knowledge of gas storage well completion practices.
