The work effort included in this interim report involved the determination of the ignition system requirements to enable using air-fuel ratios sufficiently lean to produce less than 4 g/bhp-hr NO emissions and of the potential availability of such systems. Emphasis was placed on ignition systems which would not require any mechanical modifications to the engine.
