This research project was conducted to develop a suitable method to evaluate cathodic protection on encased pipe sections. The objectives of the research were: (1) to develop techniques to determine whether the casing and the carrier pipe are effectively isolated from each other or if they are shorted together, and (2) to develop a measurement technique which will allow the degree of cathodic protection of the carrier pipe within an electrolyte-containing annulus region of the casing to be assessed if the casing is not shorted to the carrier pipe.
