  • Cellulosic coated (EXX10 classification) electrodes have unique benefits for root pass welding in difficult field fit-up conditions
  • Using a lower strength E6010 root pass to reduce cracking risk may not be needed on today’s low carbon line pipe  
  • E8010 electrodes are comparable to E6010 for root pass welding operability and weldability on modern line pipe 
  • An E8010 root pass can be part of an effective solution to address pipeline girth weld strength undermatching
