2011 Research Program
Ballot Posted
As the ballot
process continues we hope that these research initiatives will be of interest
to stakeholders and industry organizations, perhaps stimulating them to
provide cofunding for projects of interest to them. PRCI Supports Multiple Technical Proposal Submitted Under Recent BAA PRCI and our research partners received notification from PHMSA in May 2010 that a number of the White Papers that were submitted in response to PHMSA's Broad Agency Announcement (BAA, DTPH56-10-BAA-000001) were accepted. PRCI supported the preparation of 13 separate technical proposals that are aligned with and build upon our current research programs, including extensions and continuations of ongoing, active research projects and several new projects that are consistent with PRCI's Research Program roadmaps. A number of the new projects are included on PRCI's 2011 annual voting ballot. PHMSA has indicated that a review of the technical proposals is underway and notification of pending awards is expected within the next month. Additional information will be provided in the next edition of Throughput. 18th Biennial Joint Technical Meeting on Pipeline Research Pipeline Research Council International, Inc. (PRCI) is pleased to announce to our members, the members of the European Pipeline Research Group (EPRG), and the members of the Australian Pipeline Industry Association (APIA) the 18th Biennial Joint Technical Meeting on Pipeline Research. This world-class forum reflects one of the most significant collaborations in pipeline research formed by the tripartite partnership of PRCI, EPRG, and APIA who together have members operating on five continents. The Joint Technical Meeting (JTM) is a unique opportunity to collaboratively demonstrate pipeline research excellence and to address the challenges confronting the pipeline industry at a global level. The meeting will take place at the Fairmont San Francisco Hotel in the awe-inspiring historic city of San Francisco, California. Renowned for its cultural diversity, eclectic mix of Victorian and modern architecture, and its famous landmarks, San Francisco is one of the top destinations for travelers worldwide. The meeting will include a series of technical paper presentations and workshops. The interactive workshops will be arranged in parallel tracks which are organized by research programs areas and technical disciplines, the primary focus of which will be to discuss and establish common research needs, identify opportunities for collaboration, and generate action plans for future research among the three organizations. Social events and a guest/partner program will also be offered.
Papers on
pipeline research from PRCI, APIA, EPRG and their member companies addressing
topics under design, materials, construction and pipeline integrity management
are welcome. Separate calls for papers will be distributed by each organization
to its membership in the coming weeks. Detailed information about meeting
and hotel registration will follow in early 2011. For further assistance
please contact PRCI. For information about meeting logistics, contact
Mary Untiedt. For
information about the technical program, contact Max
Toch. External Meetings & Presentations PRCI Chairs PipeTech World Summit Madrid 2010 PRCI President, George W. Tenley, Jr., served as Chair of this international conference and exhibition held in June Madrid, Spain. The focus of the Summit, which drew more than 150 representatives of the pipeline and related industries, was on pipeline integrity from construction through all phases of operation, and drew participation from throughout Europe, Africa, and Asia. PRCI also had a booth in the exhibition, and it was manned by Joe Summa, president of PRCIs strategic partner, Technical Toolboxes. Joe reported that the booth generated a great deal of interest among Summit attendees affording opportunities for follow-up regarding potential memberships in PRCI. Anyone interested in obtaining the papers from the Summit should contact PRCI. API 2010 Annual Pipeline Conference PRCI staff, member company representatives, and our research partners provided support for several of the technical sessions and panel discussions at the API 2010 Pipeline Conference and Cybernetics Symposium, held April 20-22, 2010 in New Orleans, LA. The conference is API's annual meeting to address issues and challenges specific to the pipeline industry and covers multiple topical areas of relevance to the petroleum industry. PRCI was asked to participate on several of the session panels as the topic areas and technical issues covered in the sessions are consistent with our research programs, several of which are driven by the petroleum pipeline industry. Presentations were made in support of the sessions addressing Facility Integrity, Damage Prevention, and Research and Development. The conference reaffirmed the importance of the research being conducted in support of the petroleum pipeline industry and identified several key areas of current focus and future needs. Several of these items were included as research projects to be included on the 2011 annual ballot. Please direct questions regarding the API conference to Peter Lidiak or Karen Simon at API, or Mark Piazza at PRCI. NACE Corrosion Technology Week Meeting NACE is sponsoring its annual Corrosion Technology Week (CTW) Conference from September 19-23, 2010, in Orlando Florida. The CTW conference is the annual NACE meeting where the Technical Committees meet to develop and revise the standards and reports that corrosion engineers and professionals from the pipeline industry and other industry sectors rely on when seeking solutions to their corrosion problems. It is expected that more than 100 of NACE's committees will meet during the conference. A number of the meetings scheduled for the conference are directly related to PRCI research projects and/or research program focus areas. Please contact Mark Piazza, Program Manager with PRCI, or Cliff Johnson, Director of Public Affairs for NACE, with any specific questions. PRCI Membership We are pleased to announce that the China Petroleum Pipeline Bureau (CPP) has joined PRCI as a full Associate Member. Founded in 1973, CPP is a transnational specialized pipeline engineering company experienced in the construction and management of long distance petroleum pipelines, large and medium storage tank farms, urban distribution, power and communication. Also recently joining PRCI as a Technical Program Associate Member in the Operations and Integrity Technical Committee, we welcome Subsea Integrity Group (SIG). SIG is wholly owned by Genesis Oil & Gas Consultants and part of the larger Technip Gp. SIG was established in 2006 to provide the technical innovation and field support for subsea and pipeline integrity operations. Finally, we welcome Stupp Corporation who has joined PRCI as a Technical Program Associate Member in the Design, Materials, and Construction Technical Committee. Stupp is one of the world's premier producers of custom steel API-5L line pipe for the energy industry. |
